My Favorite Things ? (Not!)

The other day, I caught myself humming the tune, “My Favorite Things”.

Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers penned that memorable song, made famous in “The Sound of Music”.

I’m not sure why the tune crept into my mind at that time.

In case you don’t remember it, here we go.

As Mitch Miller would say, “And a-one and a-two”.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.

Bright copper kettles and warm, woolen mittens.

Brown paper packages tied up with strings.

These are a few of my favorite things.

Cream-colored ponies and apple with strudel.

Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles.

Wild guess that fly with the moon on their wings

These are a few of my favorite things.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes.

Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes.

Silver-white winters that melt into spring.

These are a few of my favorite things.

When the dog bites.

When the bee stings.

When I’m feeling sad.

I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so sad.”

Pretty perky, huh?

And since it mentions mittens, tied-up packages, sleigh bells, airborne geese, snowflakes, and winters melting into spring, we normally hear this song in the Christmas season.

Now I like the song.

But there’s also a part of me that doesn’t always see the world through rose-colored glasses.

I enjoy a little “cage-rattling” from time to time.

So, my mind switched to the “dark side” for a few moments and I thought I’d offer this.

A few of “My Non-Favorite Things”.

(You should be able to sing this to “My Favorite Things”)

“Dried hunks of food on my dishes and flatware.

Something that’s wet when I sit and it ‘s cold there.

Warm bowling shoes as I ready to strike.

These are a few of the things I  don’t like.

A shop-ping cart that is sticky and gooey.

A wet chip in nachos can make me act screwy .

Finding a floater in my glass of tea.

These are some of the things somewhat gaggy to me.

Walking through grass and slip-ping in the dog’s doo

A piece of a shell in my eggs makes me boo-hoo.

A slice of meat that squeaks loud when I chew.

This is something that can make me unglue.

When the checks bounce.

When the bills pile.

When I’m feeling poor.

I simply consider my station in life

and then I just slam the door.”

Thanks for allowing me to vent.

I doubt this will be sung in the remake of  “The Sound of Music” but one never knows!?
